Funeral services for Essie D. Perkins, age 101, of Waskom, TX will be held at New Boggy Baptist Church, Waskom, TX Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the New Boggy Cemetery. Viewing will be Friday, November 22, 2024, at Lewis Funeral Home from 1 to 6:00 p.m. Ms. Perkins was born November 11, 1923, in Waskom, TX and died November 17, 2024, in Marshall, TX.

Mother Essie D. Perkins. Essie D. Perkins was born on November 11, 1923 in Elysian Fields, Texas to Viola Rocquemore Mays Anderson. Her father was Mathis Perkins. She gave her life to Chris at an early age, and joined the Elysian Fields Baptist Church. She was united in marriage to Joseph Perkins (Yank), and to this union, 4 children were born. After moving to the New Boggy community, she joined her husband's church, New Boggy Baptist Church, in the early 50's. She faithfully served in serveral ministries. She was a member of the Mission Ministry, Deaconess Ministry, senior choir, Kitchen helper, Sunday School Teacher of children and adults and Vacation Bible School worker. Her early education was at Oak Hill School, and she completed high school at the Elysian Fields Colored School. Essie enjoyed sewing, writing, talking with her friends and family members, reading to her children and the visiting kids living nearby. She also loved researching for her Bible Studies and Sunday School classes. She was preceded in dealth by her husband, Joseph Perkins (Yank), her mother, Viola Rocquemore Anderson, and her father, Mathis Perkins. Her two younger daughters, Vera Ruth Perkins and Ola Mae Perkins Askew, also preceded her death. Three brothers also preceded her in death, James Douglas, Mathis Perkins Jr., and Odell Perkins.
