Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Faye Boyd, 85, will be held at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Wiley Cemetery, Marshall, TX. Viewing will be Friday, August 30, 2024, from 1 to 7:00 p.m. at Lewis Funeral Home. Mrs. Boyd was born July 16, 1939, in Hearne, Texas and died August 24, 2024, in Longview, Texas.

Dorothy Faye Lewis was born July 16, 1939, in Waco, Texas to Willie and Gertha Lewis. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. Dorothy married Harry Boyd on April 21, 1969. To this union one child was born. She completed high school in Palestine, Texas and attended summer classes at North Texas State University, as well as Texas Women University. Later, she graduated with a major in Music and Elementary Education from Texas College in Tyler, Texas. Dorothy worked for Karnack ISD in the area of Elementary Music and High School Choir. She was also employed in Shreveport, Louisiana as a science teacher. Ms. Boyd eventually taught and retired from Marshall Independent School District in the area of science as well. Outside of being an educator for more than thirty years, she also authored a book, "Life Day by Day". In her life, she has done many jobs to keep herself busy and productive. She worked as a Bank Teller for Fannin Bank in Houston, Texas and a Receptionist for the department of Human Resources. Mrs. Boyd was a member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Marshall, Texas where she served as the Church Clerk and a member of the adult choir. She also headed the ministry of "The Marshall Prayer Force" at New Bethel. Mrs. Boyd was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Gertha Lewis and husband, Harry Boyd. She leaves to celebrate her life: her loving son, Howard Anthony Boyd of Austin, Texas and a host of other relatives and friends.
